COLLINS: VHS (Scalp Ripper Red) Cassette
Do not adjust your tracking… Spun Out Of Control is proud to present its second ever release from Gary Collins. ‘VHS’ follows up Collins’ 2018’s tremor-down-the-spine inducing ‘Suzy Went Missing’ album, also on sold-out cassette, and prior releases on the Giallo Disco label.
An Italo/horror disco flavoured homage to the one-time joys of renting forbidden ‘video nasties’ on cassette, each track on ‘VHS’ soundtracks an imagined movie from 1979 through to 1990. Titles including ‘Flesh Cult’, ‘Deathstalker’, ‘Sleaze Cruiser and ‘Lazerwave’ conjure up lurid movies for the mind.
Gary Collins explains: “Inspired by the music of Patrick Cowley, Bobby Orlando and Giorgio Moroder, these are imagined theme tunes to soundtrack a vintage VHS collection. Like most of us, I have treasured early memories of visiting the local rental shop, as well as the Thursday evenings when the video rental man would call to our home in his van. My father, brother and I would eagerly select titles from the racks of colourful cassettes, full of demonic beasts dripping with blood, beautiful babes and pumped up action heroes. It was a magical time.”
With specially commissioned cover and j-card art by Eric Adrian Lee, ‘VHS’ by Collins is available on two different limited edition hand-numbered colour cassette shells to match the artwork. Choose from a sleazy ‘Scalp Ripper Red’ translucent shell or go for the ‘Neon Green TV Glow’ shell. Catalogue number SOS 064.
Freako, psycho, horrorshow… if you don’t love this one, first check your VCR… then check your pulse!
