THE PSYCHIC CIRCLE: Wizards of the Watchtower LP
The enigmatic psych rock duo The Psychic Circle return with their third album, 'Wizards of the Watchtower', arriving March 7th via Library of the Occult Records. Comprised of Tom McDowell (Dream Division, Library of the Occult Records) and Jack Harris, the group once again conjures dark electronic krautrock, doom-laden psych, and motorik grooves, channeling a sound that is equal parts hypnotic and heavy.
A ritualistic blend of Black Sabbath’s crushing riffage and Can’s relentless drive, Wizards of the Watchtower is a journey into the occult side of psych rock. Across 11 sprawling tracks, the album conjures a sound that is both ominous and otherworldly - a doom-laced, groove-heavy sonic ritual that bends time and space.
John Hubner of Complex Distractions describes the album as “dark and groove-heavy… showing what would have been if Sleep had found solace in Hawkwind instead of Sabbath.” Tracks like ‘Forgotten Goblin’ evoke a “doom baroque”atmosphere, while ‘Sword Against Sorcery’ sounds like “Uriah Heep and Black Mountain coming together in a fuzz guitar light
show.” Meanwhile, the title track, ‘Wizards of the Watchtower’, is a thrilling nod to Scorpions’ ‘Sails of Charon’ reimagined through the lens of a 70s Giallo film.
The album will be released on limited edition ‘Hellfire’ orange vinyl, a pressing as fiery and enigmatic as the music itself. Prepare to be transported.
