Shot in Florida for $1,000 on Super 8 by fifteen-year-old Tim Ritter (TRUTH OR DARE?: A CRITICAL MADNESS), DAY OF THE REAPER is a psychotropic tribute to every horror film that was cool in the summer of 1984. A cannibalistic, black-hooded nasty roams around the suburbs and kills people who wear bikinis and white short-shorts. Meanwhile, people sit on couches, beaches, and in gaudy hotel rooms . . . and then they die. DAY OF THE REAPER is a gore-trash variant on Andy Warhol’s EMPIRE—we don’t know why we’re watching this film, or why we’d even want to, but the cumulative dreamlike state that results is remarkable. - AGFA
DAY OF THE REAPER, at heart was my idea of Jason vs Michaei Myers, kinda-sorta, but creating new killers to replace my copyrighted favorites. I had a story that was way too complex las always, and had also just discovered the world of Wes Craven and THE HILLS HAVE EYES, PIECES, and BASKET CASE. and H.G. Lewis to boot! Shooting on super-8 film silent was a blast! The audio didn't match up Idialogue was recorded on cassette with boombox!) but it didn't matter to me, I was in a PIECES frame of mind where it really didn't matter. Composer Sean Ruddy was a friend of mine, he manned the counter at MOONDOG MUSIC, the local place where l purchased soundtracks and heavy metal on vinyl in the early 80's.... (taken from album insert)
